Okay so I skipped the Pokemon sketch challenge, not that I didn't try. I just wasn't happy with any of my sketches which I might upload for pokes and giggles; who knows. Either way, I jumped to the next sketch challenge: Flapjack; which I believe was last week's sketch challenge. (I'm not lazy, just preoccupied.) This is one of those shows that took me a while to get into, but it's pretty funny. This picture is actually based on one of my favorite episodes of Flapjack and if your a fan of the show you know exactly what I'm talking about. Sketch challenge power go. Here's another sketch challenge of one of my favorite cartoon characters of all time. Man I'm starting to miss SCAD. I get so preoccupied back home that I can't even finish a drawing in one sitting. Do the laundry, look after grandma, pick up medicine at the pharmacy, bring sister food at work, hey, here's a week of 20 hours overtime, oh and getting about 4 to 5 hours a sleep a night kind of sucks too. Man I'm really jonesing for a new brush right now because I think this drawing could have had some awesome improvement. Once I get some more supplies I'm hoping to ink my face off. So keep in check. Critters and Fun

Well I'm done with college and finally back home once again fending off the temptations of tv, friends and video games in favor of drawing as much as possible. I haven't done much lately as I lack the supplies at the moment, but I'm trying to make due. Recently I've been trying to collect inking references online. In my explorations I discovered an awesome site called comiccrazys.com which has some really old cartoon comics from the 60s and 70s. It's a great site for those who are interested in a more animated style for their artwork.

Anyways, I decided to submit my final project at SCAD. Its the story of a gerbil and a guinea pig who try to escape their cage. The inking's a little wobbly and some of the character construction is off in places, but I'm happy with the final product. Hope you guys enjoy.

Double Whammy Viz 2/ Senior Project Maximum Impact 16 Page Two Week Deadline Stress Inducing Crazyness(aka Surviving Half a Semester of SCAD.

Alright, another quarter at SCAD. Hooray. Here's 16 pages of comics I did in two weeks. Hope you enjoy my suffering. Heh, just kidding. I had some fun with the paperboy comic, but the other one was a hectic rush to the finish line. I took alot of shortcuts using spotted blacks and graphic shapes. My inking also suffered in quality as the speed was getting to me although this is probably what making comics is like in the real world so I should probably get used to it. My professor says this kind of work builds character. I tell ya what it builds: sleep deprivation. I don't think I've pulled off so many all nighters and 4 hour sleep days in my life. Oh well, enjoyz

P.S. Sorry about the lack of word balloons. I do them in Illustrator and put them along side the artwork in Indesign. I'm not sure how to upload that format, but rest assured the stories should read for themselves. If anyone knows how to do that however please comment, I'd love to know.

I left the color out of the paperboy story and only posted my inks . The colors were rushed and chances are they probably would of blinded you. I guess you can tell which part of this business is my weakness.

This whole process is going to be done over again this quarter so you can look forward to another two stories. Goodiliciousness all around.

This is for the Temple of Cartoon Mojo's sketch challenge. This week's challenge is James Cameron's Avatar. When the movie first came out I thought it was going to be the movie based off of the cartoon series of the same name, but that's coming later this year under the moniker of "The Last Airbender". Now that's just confusing. This sketch perfectly examplifies the confusion I felt when the movie was announced. Check it out.

Speed Sketching In Vis2

Today in Visual Storytelling we did a quick 90 minute sketch. I spent half my time doing research, which was probably not a good decision. The subject to draw was Ben 10: a show that I know of, but am not totally unfamiliar with. Kid turns into aliens, sounds 80s. Anyways here's Four Arms saving a cat from a tree.

In the class critique everybody thought Four Arms was going to kill the cat, but he is actually saving him. Sorry if that gets confusing. In essence, I spent about 50 minutes throwing this together out of the 90 minutes I had. Next time I hope to nail it.

Let's Talk About Sonic (you knew this was coming]

It's no secret that I am a huge fan of Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog series.

Yeah I'm sad, but that's not the point. The point is I was on youtube yesterday and I stumbled over an old sonic animatic created by some guy named Back2Soul or something like that. The guy does quick sonic animations and I found this one he did called the KnuckleDuster animatic and I gotta say: this guy's is going places. He really gets the Naota Oshima design style, which just wreaks of awesomeness. I think that's because Oshima had a more Disneyesque Tezuka approach to the character. When it comes to Sonic I find going for a Disney aesthetic always works better than going for an anime one which I see countless people fail at on a daily basis. Back2Soul really gets this and has made a real awesome video to boot. I almost cried at the end. I though I'd do some sketchin' around with it and get a flavor for the animation. I learned alot about shapes and faces. Good stuff.Sorry about the photos, I lack a scanner at the moment (or least a good one)

Yeah that's 20 penciled pages on the ground that I did in the past week in a half for my pal Trevor. I'm still tweakin' it but be sure, by the end of break I'm gonna have loads of art done. Bah Ha! Now if you'll excuse I'm going to go draw before my hands die of non pencil holding. Let's hope I can ignore my video games for just a little longer.

Finals Part 3 : Visual Storytelling or How I Learned To Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

This class was the final and most difficult of the three courses as I was working a pretty impossible deadline. I was able to get my pics ready for critique about 5 minutes after class started, which ended making them late. I worked 48 hours straight on these mofos and they're late. I tells ya there's no reward for hard work in this here's society. I'm just glad they're done. I took the liberty of fixing things that I saw and heard in the critique. Overall the story is a rather humoring prose of a bumbling pizza boy trying to overcome his fear of dogs. It's a beautiful tale of action, intrigue, and a really jerky vampire. Here's the 7 pages and I hope all you SCAD students enjoy a break from this long incrutiating quarter. This is the Trav-man signing off.

Finals Part 2 : Children's Storybook

Think it's hard working on comics try working on something you don't comprehend or understand. For 10 weeks I chose to try out another major: Illustration! It's like seeing the world through new eyes. Whereas Sequential seems to be more about storytelling, illustration is more about style. There's so many ways to wrap your head around an idea. I can't even remember the last time I've used collage. Anyway, the entire class was devoted to doing a six page children's book. For mine I tried to focus on what I know best as to keep within the deadline. So my medium was pencil, ink, and photoshop: the classics am I right? Here are the six pages. The story's about a sad star who becomes a shooting star or something like that. It's kind of boss. Check it out.

Finals Part 1:Cover Design

Man, I thought last quarter at SCAD was bad, this quarter was out of control. I was literally at school for at least 12 hours a day doing work. I usually got somewhere between 5 hours to 8 hours of sleep a night, (8 hours if I was lucky). If that was bad enough, for finals I had 14 pages that needed to be penciled, inked and digitally colored in a matter of two weeks. The last two days of the quarter I literally stayed up 48 hours straight just trying to meet all the deadlines. What I'm about to present to you is a three part post of the grueling torture that is finals week. For the first post I will show what I did in Cover Design. this class was pretty cool, albeit I had no idea making a cover was such hard work. I recommend anyone who's interested should check it out as it's a really cool class. For the final we had to do a wraparound cover for either a comic of our choosing or for a our own personal comics. I chose to do my character from the 24 hour comic event at SCAD in 2008: Super Happy Action Dino Protagonist. Yeah, say that 3 times fast. You thinks that's a long name, I had to build a logo in Illustrator around that piece a crap. Do you know how hard it is to create a long title logo especially one that's made up of 31 characters. It's like frickin' Street Fighter: Should I call it Hyper Super Happy Action Dino Protagonist Turbo Remix HD Alpha .5 Directors Cut XXL Special Edition Plus. Whatever here's the wraparound.

My author bio needs to be moved to the right a little, but other then that, everything seems to fit. It came out crazy fun albeit I would've liked to work with the composition a bit more. But you must realize this is only 1 page out of the 14 I did in the course of two weeks. There's still 13 more pages to go.
P.S. And yes that is an Oni Logo, but this comic is not affiliated with the company at all. I was merely working to Oni Specs and when asked to put a company logo on the book, it seemed like the logical thing to throw the Oni Logo on there. I repeat I have nothing to do with Oni. Please don't sue me. I've got candy.

White Out and Hellboy

Oh boy another Visual Storytelling Project. These projects just want stop, they just keep coming. Agh! Okay, enough crazy babble. For this assignment we had to use white out to define the lighting of the form. The subject was anyone from the B.P.R.D. I chose Hellboy cause he's hella awesome. The Hollow of Sleepiness

Argument Part 2

Here's the continuation of the argument project I'm doing for Visual Storytelling. For this one we had to play around with the pace and panel layout and than had to ink it. I mostly worked with a brush which I was happy with, but man I was really fighting that board. If any of you are into smooth brushwork, I'd recommend not using Strathmore's 500 Series Vellum Bristol Board, unless you like your brush work to be real jagged. I think I did fine and the professor kind of liked the rough texture of the brush. Personally I prefer something smoother. I might try Strathmore's 500 Series Smooth or the Semi Smooth at some point. Fun with Frankenstein

Here's a sketch I did of Frankenstein for the temple challenge. I thought rather than creating the monster of Frankenstein, I'd create a composition out of surreal anatomy. I wanted to see how much of the paper I could fill up with the distortion of Franky. I think the design came out fun and I had a good time drawing it. Let the Wild Rumpus Start

First and foremost, I never read where the "Where the Wild Things Are" when I was child nor am I interested in seeing the new movie. This assignment was merely a pin-up assignment in visual storytelling: pure and simple. I did however read the book as well as read a psychoanalysis on it in my Children's Story Book Class. Holy Comicbook Cover, Batman! This week of Digital Cover Design we had to put together an entire cover from scratch. The idea was to recreate a mainstream comic cover. I, of course chose Batman as Batman is the friggin' shiznit. The copy I believe was Batman Issue 689 which I believe is the first in a arc of stories featuring Dick Grayson as Batman. The original comic cover was a bit bleh, as the whole point of a cover should sum up the comic as well as have a unique composition that will have the reader interested especially from far away. The original cover was basically BLEH! I'm the Goddamn Batman! BLEH! BLEH! Emoness at it's finest, although the artist can draw circles around me, so I'm gonna shut my trap before I gets in troubles. Here's the original colored artwork.

I feel my inks were a bit rushed, but compositionally I'm happy. The idea of the story is Penguin is behind the scenes making mischief while Batman is blindly being led into enemy territory. I think the cover gets that across nicely. Hope you guys enjoys.

Marvel/Disney Thingy

Oh wow another blog within the past 5 minutes, and at four dead-gum thirty in the morning. I be's burnin' the midnight oil kupo. Give ya five bucks if you get that reference. On second thought I ain't given' any o' you a damn thing. So any way I did this comic strip back in the summer on my thoughts on Disney buying Marvel. Personally I don't give a flying flip edge wise seeing as such studios as Pixar are doing just fine with big ol' mouse ears over em'. Anyway the Temple of Cartoon Mojo site, which everybody should check out if you haven't, just had a sketch challenge based on the whole Marvel Disney escapade so I decided to color this here mamma jamma. Caricature Fun

Here's a caricature I did for one of my mom's friends. The woman portrayed is a nurse whose retiring and they wanted to send her off with a humorous caricature of her crossing the proverbial finish line of retirement. My mother told me about the job and I took it. Here is the finished product albeit cropped( blame my scanner). My mom's friends all seemed to enjoy it and I even got paid. This was good experience and I hope to do more stuff like it in the future. Sorry about the blurriness, once again my scanner sucks monkey grime.

Sweet sassy molassy I gotz my own blog. Now I can talk and post all kinds of crazy stuff. I'm an artist preferably of the sequential sort that deals in the makings of comics and character designs. I have a flavor for animation and a whole lotta love for the sequential medium.

The site's called Travime Cooliente, based off the imaginary comic industry I made up as a child."Trav" as in my name Travis and "ime" as in animation. The cooliente just makes the name sound more cool thus it's existence.

I'm mainly going to be using this blog for my art as well as my own personal monologues on life and craziness so stick around, you won't wanna miss it.
